The Coming Dawnby Bob HostetlerThe darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining (I John 2:8b, NKJV). I don't often rise before the sun does, but recently I had to leave the house before dawn on a business trip. On my way to the airport, I witnessed a spectacular sunrise splash the sky with shades of purple, red, orange, and yellow. Artists and farmers are probably accustomed to such kaleidoscopic displays, but the experience thrilled me and prompted thought. The light of dawn comes when it will; no one can hurry or delay it. It i also certain; in the many millenia of human exitence, it has never failed. It is not only beautiful, it is irresistable; the darkness flees before it. Likewise, there is a coming dawn that none of us can hurry or delay. It is certain, and it is irresistable. The Apostle John wrote that "the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining." At times, it seems that the darkness will overwhelm the light, that good will be overcome by evil, that our society and our world are descending irrevocably into a sea of wickedness. But the dawn approaches; the darkness is passing. As God paints the sky with beauty every morning, the earth will someday be filled with the knowledge of the Lord. Prayer: God, arise in your power and beauty with each new morning and shed your light throughout all the earth. More devotions by Bob Hostetler... Copyright © 2005, Bob Hostetler |
